EVOI is a 5 Red Star Rated Halliday winery (Top 10% of Australian wineries) and was awarded “Western Australian Winery of the Year” at the 2015 Melbourne International Wine Show. The core values remain the same and I continue to be the hands on winemaker, passionate about producing wines with regionality and character. We are a small, family-run winery founded on the belief that great wine is built from the ground up, through attentive farming, respect for the land, and a determination to express the character of our corner of Margaret River. Everything starts in the vineyard.
What started as a modest experiment in a garage has grown into a focused pursuit of quality, driven by father and daughter working side by side. Our operation is not large, and we prefer it that way. Every vine is walked, every ferment tasted, and every decision made by hand and instinct. We take pride in being deeply involved in every stage of the process, from pruning shears to final blend.
A Family Journey
Our story began when New Zealand born Nigel Ludlow landed in Margaret River after an extensive career as a 'flying winemaker' in Hungary, Spain and South Africa. Drawn to Margaret River by the region's natural beauty and its potential to produce wines of distinction, Nigel set out to create wines that reflected precision and place rather than size or scale. Starting out in his garage, with a couple of barrels, a parcel of Chardonnay and no cash, Nigel built a reputation for high-quality, distinct wines. And so EVOI was born.
Years later, his daughter, Sonsire, joined the venture, bringing fresh perspective and energy while upholding the standards and the ambition. Working together has deepened our shared vision: to craft wines that feel genuine, thoughtful, and rooted in their origins. Our partnership combines experience and new ideas, science and intuition, rigour and creativity. It's a collaboration that keeps EVOI evolving while remaining true to its roots.
